Reader, I must make this brief.
So little time as the holidays approach--after work, off and running to meet a friend for a movie; tomorrow, an early, early start and time to forward proofing comments to the church admin for the Christmas Eve missalette; tomorrow evening, racing out to get to Choir practice on time; and Thursday, speeding away from work to meet Poodle for dinner and Christmas gift exchange!
Whew--I'm glad the Holidays are almost here!
Last night...I had earlier eaten some salad at work for my lunch, after devouring apple and cashew butter, and then...I went to Border's book store and decided to get a piece of Pumpkin spice bread. It was not that great--too dry for me! I was not well pleased to sacrifice one of my treats for something not-so-wonderful.
But Pumpkin Cheesecake awaits! Right now, I am finishing my break and eating a lovely cold crisp Jonathan apple (my favorites!) slathered with cashew butter. Mmmm....mmmmmm....GOOD! Earlier today was salad...I ADORE SALAD!!!
And tonight, off to Harry Potter with Keith the English Prof.

One Year, One Middle-Aged Woman...and Her Odyssey of Weight Control, Optimal Nutrition, and Having a Crack at Getting into That Rockin' Wardrobe in Her Closet
The totally shame-free, actual-life, real-time blog where I tell all, show all--without nagging or whining (all right--maybe a little whining...)--in my attempt to stop being a fat middle-aged woman who avoids mirrors and clothing stores and start being a woman at home in her body...brought to you by a real woman, the Independent Weltha Herself. I won't give any advice, and I'm not asking for any--just companionship on my journey.
Every day...a new post. Every other week...my real weight. Every month...new pictures.
For every woman who has ever tried to just lose the extra weight and feel good...overall and about herself...and who lived to tell the story.

Day the 5th Part Deux
I get so excited about this blog that I post early in the day...
and I shouldn't, but whatcha gonna do? So here is part deux (a nod to Karin)
Cool thing: where I work has a cafeteria and for $1, I can get a mini-salad of really good greens + mushrooms, broccoli, and pico de gallo. AND...cole slaw.
I am aware that cole slaw is, for so many, an ewwwwwww food, and I am convinced that part of it is due to the sticky sweet, overly creamy versions made in bulk and plopped down on a plate at restaurants. This isn't the world's greatest slaw, but it's not overly creamy or sweet--lets me know I'm not dumping untoward amounts of sugar and fat into my system.
Red Alert! Red Alert! I want to know your ewwwwwww foods. You know, the ones that are "good for you" but you just can't stand. And for many of us, let's consider liver to be a default. Actually, I don't eat liver but not because I don't like the taste. It's because it detoxifies all the junk in the system, and I don't think it's healthy to eat, despite the iron levels. This is from Dr. X, and I have stuck with it.
And if anyone has a great coleslaw recipe that uses an alternate sweetener (by that, I mean something NOT refined white sugar, and lower on the glycemic index...) and that uses cider vinegar, please, please post...I'm jonzing for some great homemade slaw...
See you tomorrow...
Independently,
Weltha (I know this is "pink" but I think of it as WATERMELON...such a healthy food in season)

Day the Third
Tomorrow, I publish some of the GREAT ideas from some of my readers who didn't comment.
But first...yes, I dragged the rebounder out of the closet.
I didn't rebound on it, but it's out where I can--right in the living room. That's huge.

- Eating lots of raw carrots and finding that the taste isn't too awful. I still need to make that drizzley dip for it or steam these suckers.
- Managed an orange this morning. They are so much work, but a good orange is worth it. Note to self: buy the navel oranges you choose yourself, not the ones in the bag.
- What would I do without my own personal trail mix of organic raisins and raw organic almonds? I buy both in semi-bulk and then have to nosh upon. Organic raw sunflower seeds are great with raisins or with dates (the fruit variety, not the "wanna go to a movie?" variety) Why raw? My doctor of 22 years ago--who shall now be referred to as Dr. X--told me that raw seeds and nuts have their enzymes intact--they are living food.
- Drinking about 2 quarts of water a day--I have my quart mason jar at work (no, not filled with "sweet tea"; I prefer my syrup on waffles or pancakes...) and I try to drink a full jarful in the morning and one in the afternoon.
- Will be eating an apple on the way from work to Choir practice tonight...that's about 1/2 hour drive.
- OH...had some Wolfgang Puck Organic Chicken Noodle soup for lunch. Because it was fast and it was there, that's why.
- Big goal is to have some yogurt tonight but am out of honey and any decent sweetener (and no $$$ until tomorrow for strawberries--thanks Jana. Brilliant idea.)
- Tomorrow, will be buying Fage Greek yogurt (higher in protein, and just oh-so-good), more honey or some decent sweetner (brown rice syrup?), blueberries, almond butter (because it's good. As my friend Thad says, "It needs to TASTE GOOD." Word, Thad...) and of course, the "stuff" to make salads.
- I LOVE SALAD. I am a salad junkie. One of the reasons I have been eating less--and "less fun" food is that when I get through about a week of that? I just crave salad afterwards. Salad starts feeling like this major sybaritic treat.
- Let's see if I run on the rebounder tonight...with Choir practice, don't be puttin' money on it...
